The IRS is currently doing a compliance “spot check” on over 1,000 exempt organizations falling under 501(c)(4), (c)(5), and (c)(6) to gather information on these types of self-declared exempt organizations, assess compliance efforts, and promote voluntary compliance with applicable law.  So do not be surprised if your community service organization (e.g., Rotary Club), agricultural association, or trade association (e.g., chamber of commerce, industry group) receives a detailed IRS questionnaire in the coming months.  Are your corporate maintenance and IRS compliance efforts in order?  For some basic compliance tips for nonprofit organizations, check out the “Ten Helpful Compliance Tips for Virginia Nonprofit Organizations” article posted on the Articles page at https://ericperkinslaw.com.
