Quick Reminder About Minimum Wage Increases in Virginia

As amended by the General Assembly in 2020, the Virginia Minimum Wage Act (“VMWA”) creates a schedule of incremental increases to the minimum wage throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. The first increase, effective May 1, 2021, raised the Virginia minimum wage to $9.50/hour. Under the VMWA, the minimum wage will increase each year until it reaches $15.00/hour in 2026 and will be adjusted annually for inflation thereafter. The next increase to $11.00/hour goes into effect on January 1, 2022.
